SHEA CONCRETE CHOSEN FOR COVER OF PRECAST INC. MAGAZINE

September 7, 2013 / News & Events

Shea Concrete Products earned a place on the cover of Precast Inc. magazine after winning the publication’s inaugural cover contest earlier this summer. Despite stiff competition from seven other NPCA members, Shea Concrete’s “Lynn’s Seaport Landing Marina” took the top vote. The cover contest, scheduled to be an annual event, places Shea Concrete onto the cover for this year’s November-December issue. The edition will be distributed to media outlets across the precast concrete industry, and the floating docks will be the featured story. Shea Concrete last made the cover of Precast Inc. in the September-October 2011 edition. “Of course, everyone at the production plant is excited to have been involved with the product,” said Shea Concrete manager, Greg Stratis. “When the magazine comes out, we’ll make sure we have a celebration at the plant. I think it’s important to recognize everyone’s hard work at times like this.” “The typical protocol is to feature a (NPCA) member on the cover of each issue, but we decided to have members submit projects for this issue to put a focus on what’s going on in the industry,” said NPCA President Ty Gable. “We then had our membership vote on the entries.” Other notable projects included concrete dinosaur eggs, a statue base located in downtown Indianapolis, and the building of a new high school and senior student center. NPCA members each submitted one vote, per location. Shea Concrete’s winning submission demonstrates it’s ability and flexibility as one of New England’s top precast manufacturers. A solid reputation with regional contractors, careful engineering, and timely production made the spring 2013 project a reality. Still, the floating docks project was just one of many unique tasks the company has produced over the years. “Shea Concrete is very eager and capable of making many different products,” Stratis said. “Marinetek, who engineers dock systems, had bid on this project and asked if we were interested in making the docks for them. They heard of us through word of mouth, so our reputation is very important to us and is one of the reasons why we are so successful.” “Being chosen for the cover validates that Shea Concrete is doing projects that resonate with the industry,” Gable said.
